In the wake of last Tuesday’s terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, the associates of LTL carrier and logistics provider Averitt Express have made a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund. The donation will help the Red Cross in its efforts to provide emergency relief and supplies to the families of disaster victims and those assisting with the ongoing search and rescue efforts in New York and Washington.

According to officials from Cookeville, TN-based Averitt, the donation was made from funds collected through the company's associate-giving organization, Averitt Cares, which is funded 100% by voluntary contributions from employees.

"Over the past days, we have been overwhelmed by our associates throughout the Southeast asking how they can help with the disaster relief effort," said Elise Leeson, spokesperson for Averitt Cares. "Our associates are humbled to be able to help the American Red Cross provide aid to those who have been affected by this tragedy. To quote one of our drivers who was particularly heartbroken by the disaster, he said our efforts seem so small when you consider what is going on in New York and Washington."
