Clean Diesel Technologies Inc. has licensed Global Companies LLC of Waltham, MA to be its exclusive terminal blender of its Platinum Plus diesel fuel combustion catalyst for the New England region.

Global, a marketer of diesel and gasoline in New England, will treat diesel fuel at its terminals with Platinum Plus for delivery to select fuel marketers and fleet customers. Global added that it expects to start shipment of treated fuel in the next 60 days once injection equipment is installed.

Clean Diesel claims that adding Platinum Plus to fuel supplies not only improves fuel economy but also reduces diesel emissions and improves the performance of diesel emission control devices. The patented fuel additive introduces small amounts of platinum/cerium-based catalysts into the engine where they catalyze fuel combustion. Platinum and cerium are the same catalysts used in automobile catalytic converters, diesel oxidation catalysts and catalyzed soot filter, Clean Diesel said.

The company added that commercial fleet tests on more than 400 trucks have demonstrated between a 3 to 10% fuel economy improvement, while reducing diesel particulate matter by 10 to 25% and up to 95% when used with diesel particulate filters.
