FedEx Ground opens Cleveland hub

FedEx Ground, the small-package ground carrier subsidiary of FedEx Corp., has opened a new 229,000-sq.-ft. automated sorting hub outside of Cleveland. Equipped with high-speed, camera-based scanners that read all sides of a package, the facility has the capacity to house 144 pickup and delivery vans and will serve the metropolitan Cleveland and Akron areas. Equipped with high-speed, camera-based scanners that read all sides of a package, the facility has the capacity to house 144 pickup and delivery vans and will serve the metropolitan Cleveland and Akron areas. It's also designed to operate as a mini hub in addition to its local pickup and delivery activities.

The terminal will employ 300 people and can process up to 15,000 packages an hour, says FedEx Ground.
