Truckload carrier Forward Air Corp. said that its third-quarter revenues will rise, based on preliminary financial results from the first two months of the period.

The Greenville, TN-based air cargo trucking contractor said it expects operating revenue for the third quarter to rise between 3 and 5% compared to the same period in 2001.

Forward Air added that it expects diluted earnings per share for the third quarter to rise between 5 and 15% over the same period last year to between 20 and 22 cents per diluted share.

Rising revenues could help Forward Air make up some ground it lost earlier this year. Though it has remained profitable, the carrier's net income slipped in the first quarter this year, falling to $4.9 million from the $6.2 million it posted in the same period last year.
