Light-truck sales help Japanese automakers

Japanese automakers American Honda and Toyota Motor Sales posted positive sales numbers in April, thanks to light-truck sales. American Honda posted record April sales of 101,847 vehicles, an increase of 1.1%, according to figures released yesterday. The company said sales of light trucks rose 15.5%, to 29,279 vehicles.

Toyota light-truck sales were led by best-ever April sales of three models. The Highlander mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) had sales of 9,310, an increase of 30.5%, the Sequoia full-size SUV had 5,789 units sold, up 2.6%, and the Tundra full-size pickup posted sales of 8,505, up 10.4%.
