Net income rises 40% for Old Dominion

Net income for LTL carrier Old Dominion Freight Line rose 40.8% in the second quarter. The carrier's income was $4.36 million on revenues of $139.6 million, compared to $3.09 million on revenues of $128.6 million last year. For the first six months of 2002, Old Dominion's net income rose 61% to $6.6 million on revenues of $266.8 million. Chairman & CEO Earl Congdon said both LTL tons and LTL shipments
Net income for LTL carrier Old Dominion Freight Line rose 40.8% in the second quarter. The carrier's income was $4.36 million on revenues of $139.6 million, compared to $3.09 million on revenues of $128.6 million last year.

For the first six months of 2002, Old Dominion's net income rose 61% to $6.6 million on revenues of $266.8 million.

Chairman & CEO Earl Congdon said both LTL tons and LTL shipments increased each month of the second quarter and have continued to improve thus far in the third quarter despite the slow economy.
