Roadway Express Inc. announced that Robert B. Carr has been named senior vp – corporate and international sales and that Stan M. Friend was named vp – corporate sales. Both appointments are effective January 1.

"We are making these changes to more closely align our sales structure with Roadway's strategy of developing an unparalleled North American international network," said vp – sales Craig Tallman.

Carr's position merges his current responsibilities as vp – international business with larger corporate accounts. He has been with Roadway since 1977.

"This is a great opportunity for Roadway to bring together two business segments that are absolutely critical to the company's long-term growth and profitability," said Carr.

Friend will also become an officer and expands his current position to include additional account and industry association responsibilities. He also joined Roadway in 1977.

The office of senior vp – corporate sales is being reorganized due to the previously-announced retirement of Michael J. Murphy, effective January 1. Murphy leaves after 29 years of service to Roadway.
