The U.S. Senate has confirmed Annette Sandberg as Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

Sandberg had been deputy administrator of the agency, as well as deputy administrator of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Sandberg has acted as FMCSA administrator since the first of the year, when she replaced Joseph Clapp upon his retirement.

Sandberg was the chief of the Washington State Patrol for six years and is a nationally recognized expert on law enforcement and traffic safety. She spent more than 17 years in law enforcement, supervisory and administrative posts, some of which included responsibility for motor carrier safety, while with the Washington State Patrol.

"Her record of service while in these positions speaks highly of her qualifications for this new role," said Bill Graves, president & CEO of American Trucking Assns. "We’re confident that under her leadership, this trend will continue."
