Staples, Inc., a $11-billion retailer of office supplies and business services, has contracted with Logistics.com to use the company’s OptiBid network to procure a portion of Staples’ annual truckload transportation needs to serve its 1,000 stores in North America. .

“[We hope] to achieve impressive efficiencies and savings, as well as improve service to our customers, with this system,” said Roger Will, VP-transportation for Staples.

OptiBid is an Internet-based planning system that will provide Staples with annual contracts that satisfy the company’s cost, service and operational requirements. The system addresses a range of factors, including freight variability, network flows and transport provider rates and service levels.

Logistics.com said OptiBid is currently used by its customers to line up over $6 billion in annual freight services, along with more than $400 million in customer savings.
