The Teamsters have endorsed Gov. Rick Perry's (R) Trans Texas Corridor plan, which is designed to ease traffic congestion and increase the safety and security of Texans living throughout the Lone Star state.

“In the trucking business, time is money and sitting stuck in traffic in congested downtown areas costs consumers and businesses time and money,” Perry said. “Routing trucks out of crowded urban areas will help reduce accidents caused by congestion, will provide businesses more efficient routes to move their products, and will help reduce pollution.”

The Trans Texas Corridor incorporates toll and non-toll roads, high-speed freight and commuter rails, water lines, oil and gas pipelines, electric transmission lines, and broadband and other telecommunications infrastructure. It will allow trucks to bypass urban areas.

The Texas Transportation Commission is currently developing an action plan based on new routes. The plan should be completed by the summer.
