Teletrac, a provider of fleet location information systems, has added a wireless messaging and alert feature to its FleetDirector product, enabling fleet owners and managers to receive real-time wireless notifications about driver status via mobile devices.

The new features allow fleet managers to receive immediate notice of problems with the fleet. They save time by not having to obtain and read printed reports in order to learn vehicle status. The new feature works in conjunction with Teletrac's FleetDirector eClient system, which tracks vehicles using digital maps transmitted over the Internet to personal computers.

Garden Grove, CA-based Teletrac said customers can customize the messaging feature to send exception alerts and driver messages to any cellular phone number or e-mail address that is designated in the system. Business managers receive notices via mobile phones or wireless e-mail devices while the problem is occurring, allowing them to address field issues before they turn into significant lost time and increased costs.
