Florida opts for GE Security

GE Security has announced the State of Florida has deployed GE’s Identity Commander security platform to its 12 deepwater seaports as well as its Dept. of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles headquarters in Tallahassee.

According to the company, Identity Commander uses fixed and mobile card readers based on federally approved PIV II specifications through biometrically enabled enrollment, credential personalization and issuance capabilities. The technology works with biometric identity management from ImageWare Systems, Inc.

“The combination of GE Security and ImageWare technology provides the State of Florida with an end-to-end solution that enhances port security and boosts efficiency of commercial activity while complying with the principles of HSPD-12 and TWIC,” said Jim Miller, ImageWare’s chairman & CEO. “This project further demonstrates the usefulness of ImageWare’s biometric and secure credentialing capabilities to government organizations and private enterprises.”

Identity Commander was developed for customers that wish to implement, deploy and self-manage a FIPS 201-compliant end-to-end identity and credential management solution, GE said.
