Highway Watch hits 750,000 members

Highway Watch, a safety awareness program for truck drivers created by the ATA in 1998, has surpassed 750,000 members.

The program has incorporated anti-terrorism training since 2002 and has had a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security since 2004. The agreement expanded the program to provide anti-terrorism training to the entire highway transportation sector, including truck drivers, emergency first responders, law enforcement personnel and school bus drivers.

"It's been over three years since the DHS began funding Highway Watch, and we've seen no signs of diminished support among members of the highway transportation sector," said Prasad Sharma, executive director and chief counsel of Highway Watch. "We welcome the continued enthusiasm for the program among the trainees and we look forward to another great year. Their ongoing participation has yielded more than 9,200 safety and security reports and they've played a key role in keeping America safe and secure."
