Mar 6, 2008 2:52 PM

The industry organization dedicated to effective truck-driver training has awarded the 10th annual Lee J. Crittenden Memorial Award for advancing professional driver training standards to Ray Haight, executive director of MacKinnon Transport and its outgoing chairman. The Professional Truck Driver Institute Inc. (PTDI) announced the award at the Truckload Carriers Assn. (TCA) annual meeting earlier this week.

Haight was elected chairman of PTDI in 2002 and played a major role in reorganizing and revitalizing the organization and its training-standard work, according to the group. He was also responsible for establishment of a driver apprenticeship program in Canada and led successful driver retention efforts within MacKinnon, a Canadian-based truckload carrier.

Haight is leaving his post at PTDI to take over as this year’s chairman of TCA.

The Crittenden Award was named after Lee Crittenden, a well-known trucking industry advocate of better training standards and PTDI until his death in 1998.
