International Truck and Engine Corp. has announced the cabs of its DuraStar and WorkStar trucks now officially meet the roof-strength requirements of both the European ECE R29 and SAE J2422 rollover crash tests.

The OEM said these tests evaluate the overall structural and roof strength of truck cabs to ensure they can withstand forces from different directions as well as a 180-degree rollover to ensure firefighters are protected from injury. The cabs provide the required occupant survival space when tested with roof loads up to 25,000 lbs– exceeding the maximum requirement of 22,000 lbs by a comfortable margin.

“These are industry standard crash tests and the results underscore how safe the cab and roof are to fire personnel as they go about their often life-threatening duties,” said Bob Neitzel, International’s fire/rescue segment marketing manager. “This and other safety features on our trucks give fire personnel an extra margin of safety.”
