Lighter, RFID-ready freight pallets

Toto Pallets has introduced its new lightweight aluminum based freight pallets designed to have radio frequency identification (RFID) tags built right into them.

“Our patented pallet design addresses some of the basic logistics requirements such as transportation cost savings, product safety and traceability using RFID tags, which could include temperature sensing devices for real-time monitoring of time and temperature sensitive products,” said Tiger Aster, Toto’s president.

He said the company’s new pallets weigh between 25 and 40 lbs each, less than a wooden pallet of the same size.

“For example, a 24-foot trailer with 12 Toro pallets loaded could reduce the net weight by 300 pounds,” Aster said. “It may seem insignificant at the beginning, but it is worth millions of dollars in annual transportation costs.”
