Mack MP7 and MP8 engines have been certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to meet 2008 emissions requirements when idling, allowing Mack customers with compliant engines to bypass state regulations that limit idling to five minutes.

According to the company, CARB allows trucks with engines that emit 30 grams or less per hour of NOx to continue idling after five minutes, while trucks with engines that emit more than 30 grams must stop idling.

Customers will be able to specify “Idle Emission Certification – CARB 08” for Mack MP Series engines built after January 1, 2008, including the MP10 engine that will go into production later in 2008, the company said.
