Michelin North America and its subsidiary TCI Tire Centers, LLC have unveiled a new disaster response service unit to be used in areas hit by natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina.
The Michelin Disaster Response Unit, comprised of a 53-ft. trailer built by High Tech Performance Trailers, is equipped to service and repair tires for most commercial and construction equipment vehicles, as well as passenger tires. The unit is prepared to repair tires for emergency response vehicles such as utility crews, EMTs and fire departments, Michelin said.
The office area of the trailer is equipped with satellite communications equipment and sleeps up to six people.
The MDRU will be based at the TCI Tire Center in Atlanta and will be deployed on request to assist disaster recovery and rebuilding efforts.
