Northland Insurance, a subsidiary of the St. Paul Travelers insurance firm in Minneapolis, MN, is adding two new non-fleet coverage enhancements to its transportation insurance offering.

The following new options are available in many states and will be rolled out nationwide by 2006:

  • Family Emergency Travel Coverage offers travel cost reimbursement for family members of an injured or deceased trucker
  • Deluxe Coverage Endorsement offers coverage extensions that minimize deductibles and extra expenses resulting from a loss

“These programs were designed in direct response to trucker needs,” said Dale Schueffner, vp-agency services for Northland. “They add value to our products, especially when it comes to helping the small trucker. While other carriers offer some of the pieces, the value and breadth of coverage offered in these packages is currently unmatched.”

Schueffner added that Family Emergency Travel Coverage supplements all non-fleet policies at no additional charge. Insured independent truckers will be allotted additional coverage to provide for the travel costs of family members visiting a trucker who is injured and hospitalized away from home, he said.

Deluxe Coverage Endorsement is an option that can be added to any non-fleet policy for an additional charge, with four coverage extensions including: Diminishing deductible for physical damage, aggregate deductibles, personal effects coverage, and downtime loss and rental reimbursement coverage.
