A new rugged tablet computer, from GammaTech Computer Corp., has been released. The lightweight T7Q unit meets Military Standard 810G for drop, shock, spill, salt, fog, and freeze/thaw resistance; and meets IP-65 for protection against dust and water, the company said. It is designed especially for work environments that include transportation, field services, utilities, oil, gas and other types of mobile applications.

“Whether used on the road, in an office or at home, the lightweight and fully rugged T7Q offers exceptional peace of mind,” said Jen Chen, GammaTech president. “This new tablet has the reliability that lets users concentrate on their work without having to worry about physical or functional damage during extended, everyday use, even if everyday use is in harsh environments.”

Weighing just 3 lbs., the tablet comes equipped with ergonomic hand straps and has an optional docking station for vehicles. A hot-swappable twin battery pack provides up to 10 hours of on-the-go power.

The device is powered by a choice of processors: the Intel Atom N2600 (1.6GHz) or the Intel Atom N2800 (1.86GHz). It also comes with Intel NM10 and GMA 3650 graphics chipsets, a DDR3 slot that offers 2GB of system memory, and a m-SATA SSD drive.

The screen is a 7-in. WSVGA TFT, LCD display with a resistive touchscreen panel, ambient light sensor with auto-adjust brightness, and LED backlighting. A sunlight-readable screen and digitizer are optional for bright-light usage in outdoor environments. Wireless and connectivity functions are provided by an Intel integrated Ethernet port and wireless LAN plus Bluetooth 4.0 support.

The T7Q also comes with high-definition stereo audio and a 5.0 megapixel camera with GeoTagging support. Additionally, it features a G-Sensor with auto-rotation, e-Compass and Gyroscope for sophisticated navigation applications.

Other options include a bar-code scanner, RFID reader, magnetic stripe reader, two I/O configurations, three expansion slot options, and a global positioning system (GPS) receiver for first-time trips or trips to hard-to-find locations.
