Remote truck manoeuvring to debut at IAA19 September 2014

A truck which can be manoeuvred remotely using a tablet computer will be just one of the technology innovations on display at ZF's stand at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show (25 September to 2 October 2014, Hanover, Germany).

The ZF Innovation Truck – which is more than 25m long, with trailer and semi-trailer – will make its debut at the event, featuring driveline, chassis and steering systems can be controlled remotely.

The hybrid TraXon automatic transmission is combined with a Servotwin superimposed steering system and Openmatics telematics. Only the electric motor is actrivated when controlled remotely, making it an emission-free operation.

It's part of ZF's published approach to the future of transport. A key conclusion of its study is that a shortage of drivers in the logistics sector will mean that loading and unloading activities will need to be separated from driving – and hence some of the technologies it will demonstrate on the ZF Innovation Truck.

ZF's TraXon transmission includes a dual clutch and hybrid module for heavy trucks. Using intelligent gearshift strategies, using its PreVision GPS, the transmission is aware of the route ahead, using that information to select optimal gears.

Other technology on show at IAA will include a new lightweight independent suspension, IS 80 TF, saving 40kg on heavy trucks, as well as the ZF-EcoLife automatic transmission for buses, which promises quieter and more fuel-efficient operation.
