Shorepower Technologies extends free power offer

Jan. 30, 2013

Shorepower Technologies has extended its free power incentive for truckers. Truckers can now use Shorepower Technologies’ power pedestals for free through March 31, 2013.

“Truckers can fully utilize and see for themselves how nice it is to ‘plug in,’ run all their devices that can use AC-power,” said Alan Bates, Shorepower’s vice president of marketing. “Truckstop electrification can also work in concert with onboard battery-powered and diesel-powered auxiliary power units, which saves truck and APU batteries. It can help APUs run longer between scheduled maintenances and extend their service life.”

Since the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2012, Shorepower Technologies has seen a 72% increase in the number of truckstops adding electric plug-in power pedestals to their locations and a 140% increase in the number of electrified spaces since the beginning of 2012, it said.

“We’ve seen more and more interest from truckstop operators who want to offer their customers options for avoiding truck engine idling,” Bates said. “Truckstop operators recognize that by responding to, and in some cases anticipating truck fleet and truck operator demand, they can establish themselves as the truckstop of choice.”

According to Bates, a truck operator could potentially save over $4,000/year over idling with diesel costing $3.25/gal.

Shorepower Technologies has installed 55 locations offering more than 1,250 electrified parking spaces, with some also making cable TV available through the pedestal. Twenty of the locations provide connections to 480-volt power for hybrid refrigerated trailers.
