Shell introduces in-cab screen for FuelSave Partner23 July 2013

Shell's advanced telematics system for heavy goods vehicles, dubbed FuelSave Partner, now comes with the option of an in-cab screen, as of today (23 July 2013).

Philip Williams, head of Shell Commercial fleet UK, explains that the tablet device connects directly to Shell FuelSave Partner, and allows communication between transport fleet managers and their drivers.

He says it tracks vehicle fuel consumption, as well as driver performance, and helps fleet managers to identify areas for operational improvements, claiming a potential of up to 10%.

Managers can also send drivers operational messages, such as scheduling updates, through the screen, he says. High priority messages are highlighted and received either as text-to-speech or on-screen script.

Also, through alerts, drivers can get regular feedback on aspects of their performance, with priority messages covering speeding and daily driver hour limits. They also receive standard alerts on power take-off and idling.

Post-trip reports can also be provided, allowing drivers to analyse their performance, in terms of excessive idling, over-revving, acceleration, braking and use of cruise control.

"Reducing road transport fleet fuel consumption is a priority – and one of the most effective ways to do this is by influencing driver behaviour," states Williams.

"That's why we have developed the new in-cab screen. Now, with easier, more comprehensive communication with drivers, they have even more potential to save fuel."

The in-cab screen for Shell FuelSave Partner is available to all commercial road transport fleets for a one-off charge.
