AT&T expands fleet-management options

Oct. 17, 2014

New turnkey fleet management systems from AT&T are targeting government, private, over-the-road and local delivery fleets running heavy-, medium- and light-duty trucks as part of the company’s renewed focus on the transportation industry.

New technology for cargo tracking and asset management is also part of the new offerings as is complete development and management services for comprehensive fleet communications and mobile data systems, according to the head of AT&T’s transportation team.

“The point is we can give fleet customers a broad, neutral perspective on what’s out there, and help them with strategy, device choices, software solutions, M2M platforms and then back it up with a boatload services,” said John Moscatelli , AT&T director of advanced resource management solutions.

The Fleet Center management system combines an onboard GPS tracking device and data recorder with dispatch management tools to monitor both vehicle and driver performance. AT&T Fleet Complete expands tracking capabilities to trailers and other assets without their own power sources, as well as provided two-way communication between drivers and managers over AT&T wireless networks.

Developed specifically for government fleets, AT&T Fleet Manager is a web-based system that offers both real-time and historical GPS-based tracking information as well as access to vehicle telematics data for diagnostics and maintenance.  It also provides two-way voice and data communications, allows geofencing, and includes a range of maintenance scheduling and tracking tools.

The fourth new turnkey system from AT&T is its Fleet Driver Center, an Android-based software solution that provides electronic HOS logging over supplied in-cab devices or Android tablets. In addition to meeting HOS requirements, it allows drivers to submit electronic driver vehicle inspection reports and other electronic forms. It also integrates CoPilot Truck navigation and routing, as well as ProMiles fuel-tax reports and fuel card reporting from FleetCor.  In addition, the over-the-road fleet management system provides hands-free voice communications and data exchange to support a variety of dispatch software, according to AT&T.

Intended for carriers moving international containers and loads, AT&T Cargo View is a self-contained tracking device that can be placed inside any time- or temperature-sensitive shipment.  It communicates over the AT&T global wireless network and features an automatic airplane mode that turns its wireless modem off and back on to meet Federal Aviation Administration rules.  A second asset management tool built to take advantage of the AT&T global wireless and M2M networks was also announced earlier this month. Under development with WAM Technologies, it will offer remote management and tracking for refrigerated container shipments.
