Comdata expands cardless fuel solution platform

Jan. 3, 2013

Comdata, a provider of cardless fuel solutions, has expanded its offering to now include its Smart Solutions point-of-sale (POS) platform. The expansion means that cardless transactions can now be conducted using Smart Solutions POS technology, which is a consolidated platform designed to manage profit centers, Comdata said.

The Davis Travel Center in Stony Creek, Va. is processing cardless transactions and was the first to do so using Comdata’s Smart Solutions, the company said. It is one of two Davis Travel Center sites to implement the SmartQ cardless fueling technology with the Smart Solutions POS.

The Comdata cardless solution, which began processing live transactions in August, automates the fueling process and data entry requirements with the use of an RFID tag. Benefits of the system include the reduction of fraudulent transactions and automatic shut off of the pump when the truck pulls away.

“Comdata strives to continually bring innovation to the transportation industry,” said Steve Stevenson, president of Comdata. “This expansion in our cardless fueling capabilities is the next step in delivering solutions that can make the fuel transaction easier, faster and more secure for both merchants and fleets.”

Love’s Travel Stops is near completion of enabling more than 235 travel stops to accept cardless transactions and Travel Centers of America is also in the process of equipping their locations to accept cardless transactions, Comdata said.
