Driver coaching based on truck MPG potential

Oct. 23, 2013

ORLANDO, FL.  Using analysis of individual truck specs and real-time monitoring, a new driver coaching system helps drivers realistically maximize fuel economy based on the vehicle’s potential MPG, according to developer Vnomics Corp.  Introduced at the ATA’s annual management meeting, CORE offers a stand-alone driver training tool derived from the company’s full-suite solution which also provides EOBR functions and other safety compliance tools.

The CORE coaching tool continuously monitors interactions between the truck, driver, load, and environment to provide real-time alerts that help the driver achieve the truck’s fuel economy potential, according to Mari McGowan, dir. of product management.   It also analyzes the truck’s powertrain performance to match specs against actual operating conditions, offering suggestions on parameters like gear ratios and pinpointing potential performance problems, she said.

Fleets using the CORE system to coach their drivers have recorded up to 20% improvement in fuel efficiency and reduced maintenance costs, according to the company.
