J. J. Keller adds truck-specific navigation to tablet

June 17, 2015

“The J. J. Keller Compliance Tablet makes switching to E-Logs easier, and now it makes navigation easier, too.”

That’s the observation of Randy Thome, vice president of technology services at J. J. Keller & Associates. “We’ve partnered with ALK Technologies to add their CoPilot Truck GPS navigation solution as an option on our all-inclusive J. J. Keller Compliance Tablet. That gives fleets truck-specific navigation combined with a simple, turnkey E-Log solution in the same device.”

According to the company, the CoPilot Truck navigation solution will allow professional drivers using the tablet to:

  • Generate the best truck-legal route based on their vehicle’s height, width, length, weight and number of axles

  • Get access to offline navigation and detailed streets maps that don’t require a mobile data connection

  • Optimize routes that include up to 50 stops

  • Get load-specific routing to avoid roads that restrict hazardous materials

  • View HOS information alongside the clear navigation guidance screen

  • Locate driver points of interest, including truck services, truck stops, rest areas, weigh stations and CAT scales

The navigation solution also provides 2D, 3D and directions-only views; detailed voice instructions; and a speed limit display, among other features, the company said.

“We put the focus on total simplicity for both drivers and carriers, because we know the switch to E-Logs can impact all aspects of an organization,” Thome added. “This built-in navigation option is another great way to simplify fleet operations.”

The tablet is an 8″ Android smart device with 4G coverage and comes preloaded with the J. J. Keller Mobile E-Log app. The tablet gathers engine data from the J. J. Keller electronic logging device (ELD) that’s compatible with all vehicle classes, the company said.

“We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with J.J. Keller by adding our industry leading commercial navigation solution to its fleet-friendly technology,” said Dan Popkin, senior vice president of enterprise solutions at ALK.  “In addition to making it easier for drivers to operate more efficiently, safely and in compliance, CoPilot Truck also enables our mutual customers using the J. J. Keller Encompass system  to more effectively manage compliance and performance as both products share ALK’s single source of truck-specific data and routing.”
