J.J. Keller said it has updated its Encompass E-Log system to reflect the recent changes to the 34-hour restart for commercial drivers.
The 2015 Omnibus Appropriations Act signed by President Obama on Dec. 16, 2014, suspended the two 34-hour restart restrictions that were in place since July 1, 2013.
“As experts in DOT compliance, we understand the back-and-forth flow through Congress of complex regulatory issues,” said Randy Thome, J. J. Keller’s vice president of technology services. “Therefore, we planned for and built flexibility into our Encompass E-Log system to prepare for exactly this type of situation.”
The 34-hour restart suspension is in effect until Sept. 30, 2015, J.J. Keller said. However, if FMCSA does not provide a study justifying the restrictions on the 34-hour restart to Congress by that date, the suspension will continue until FMCSA does so.
“Regardless of what happens in Congress, we’ll make sure Encompass customers are using a system that’s in compliance with the most current regulations,” added Thome. “In the case of this suspension, drivers using our E-Log app are alerted via their iPad, iPhone or Android smart device that an update is available. And that also holds true for users of our all-inclusive J. J. Keller Compliance Tablet. It’s all about simplicity for our customers.”
