Marathon improves routing with more accurate arrival times, load planning

Jan. 8, 2015

Marathon Data Systems has added improved load planning and routing to its Viamente Route Planner solution. The addition of Reload and Time-Windowed Traffic is designed to eliminate issues that plague fleets running service routes.

The Viamente Reload feature enables resource optimization by calculating load capacities and incorporating return reload trips into their routes, the company said. Users can include up to three types of load capacities: weight, volume and cost. Viamente Route Planner will automatically utilize each truck, loading it to full capacity while respecting and maintaining set limits. This feature significantly improves the routing process for the wholesale distribution, large appliance delivery, manufacturing industries, and others that must reload trucks throughout the day.

Time-Windowed Traffic assists the Viamente Route Planner in providing more accurate arrival times by setting up time-dependent traffic profiles. Previously, users set up traffic profiles for specific regions without designated times for peak traffic volume; with this new feature, users can now create two time windows, that will allow for variable traffic volume within a region into consideration while building routes.

“Marathon Data Systems designs every feature of Viamente Route Planner with the specific needs of our customers in mind, addressing the pain points they deal with daily,” said Chris Sullens, CEO and president. “The additions of the Reload and Time-Windowed Traffic features will help reduce unnecessary bottlenecks for our transportation and logistics customers, creating an overall more efficient operation and daily productivity.”
