U.S. Xpress taps SkyBitz to track trailers

March 9, 2015

KISSIMMEE, FL. U.S. Xpress Enterprises, Inc. is now rolling out SkyBitz’s tracking technology across its fleet of new dry van trailers as well as existing trailers, according to an announcement shared by SkyBitz, (a wholly owned subsidiary of Telular Corporation) here at the annual Truckload Carriers Association Convention today.

The SkyBitz solution is being deployed to provide complete visibility of trailers and cargo throughout U.S. Xpress’ North American supply chain to help the fleet optimize the use of its assets, improve security and provide customers with best-in-class service. In addition to real-time visibility of its trailer-fleet’s location, U.S. Xpress will also be able to monitor and analyze reports for idle time, turn times, detention time, trailer pools, mileage and cargo status, as well as perform yard checks remotely.

Wabash National Corporation is currently installing the SkyBitz devices right at the factory for the new dry van trailers it is delivering to U.S. Xpress, Siamak Azmoudeh, vice president channel sales for SkyBitz, told Fleet Owner.  “Managing trailers is always challenging,” he observed. “Having accurate, timely information—Is the trailer, loaded? Empty? Parked or moving?—allows them to make better decisions and achieve better asset utilization… It also helps to enhance customer service.”

“At U.S. Xpress, we take great pride in consistently delivering superior service to our customers. We focus on adopting innovative technology solutions that enable us to improve responsiveness to our customers and increase productivity,” said Max Fuller, chairman and CEO, U.S. Xpress Enterprises . “SkyBitz has demonstrated unparalleled industry expertise. We were impressed with the way SkyBitz worked closely with us to develop a customized integration that delivers greater visibility and efficiencies across departments – from maintenance to dispatch to business operations.”

“We are proud to partner with U.S. Xpress to help them improve the utilization of their trailers and also optimize their supply chain operations,” said Henry Popplewell, senior vice president and general manager, SkyBitz. “SkyBitz is committed to working closely with U.S. Xpress to identify areas to build greater efficiencies and develop powerful analytics to support growth and provide a competitive advantage.”

Founded in 1985, U.S. Xpress Enterprises is the nation’s second largest privately owned truckload carrier, providing a wide variety of transportation solutions throughout North America. U.S. Xpress is a SmartWay Transport Partner and was honored with a 2009 SmartWay Environmental Excellence Award.
