A more accurate picture of global supply chains is being available through the latest release of PC*Miler|Worldwide

The 3rd generation of ALK Technologies x50 lineup of truck-specific GPS navigation devices has been launched at the Descartes Systems Group’s Evolution 2010 Global User Group Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The PC*Miler Navigator 550 is designed specifically for company drivers, owner-operators and leased operators, ALK said. The portable navigation device comes equipped with PC*Miler truck-specific routing for the U.S. and Canada.

The device offers over 3 million commercial truck restrictions, customizable route calculation based on vehicle size and load type, and over 7 million points of interest including truck-specific categories.

In addition, Navigator 550 includes hi-end navigation features including ClearTurn realistic display with lane indicator arrows and real sign post information for clear guidance at complex intersections and highway exits. The device comes with voice-guided turn-by-turn directions, a hi-def 5 in. widescreen touch display with anti-glare finish, and ALK’s MapSure, which automatically downloads map updates at regular intervals during the year.

MapSure also gives drivers the ability to report roads or addresses that are missing or need updating. Drivers can also create state mileage logs for accurate billing and tax calculation.

ALK also announced an update to its PC*Miler|Worldwide. Version 24.1 generates routes, distances, maps and driving directions over the entire international highway network with regional coverage provided for Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, North and South America.

In select areas outside of North America, Navteq digital map data has been integrated with the solution, which offers over 659,000 new miles of roads in Europe and over 13,000 new miles in South America in its database.

The new release has more comprehensive secondary road coverage throughout Western and Central Europe, updated 53-ft./twin trailer routing and map data, and new truck restrictions in North America and Europe.

New features and enhancements include least cost routing which generates optimal routes based on custom fuel efficiency, time and operating cost settings; and an estimated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per route calculator.
