Tow truck operators now can get live driver location updates and more accurate arrival time estimates thanks to the integration of TomTom’ s Worksmart and Beacon Software’s towing management applications.

“TomTom and Beacon Software are solving the perennial problem for towing companies of matching customers to the closest drivers and getting those trucks routed quickly and efficiently to the right locations,” said Michael Geffroy, vp-North American sales for TomTom Business Solutions.

Beacon Software is using Worksmart, TomTom’s fleet management solution, to route dispatch calls from its own software directly into a driver’s TomTom in-cab device.

The integrated solution will show all jobs and trucks in real time along with color-coded icons that display the status for each call, so dispatchers can quickly identify the closest truck to a call, reducing mileage and improving customer service, Geffroy noted.

One company that has seen a significant savings by employing the solution is Henry’s Wrecker Service in Washington, D.C.

“Our dispatchers are just like air traffic controllers now,” said Fred Scheler, president & CEO, Henry’s Wrecker Service. “With two 46-in. flat-screen TVs in dispatch, we can very easily see the location of customers and drivers, so our dispatchers can assign the closest truck and give the customer an accurate estimate for arrival. By travelling fewer miles to each call, we have saved $40,000 per month in fuel costs and our drivers can get to more calls every day.”
