Customers using Qualcomm’s Untethered Asset Management Service can now haul Dept. of Defense (DoD) shipments after the product received Defense Transportation Tracking System II (DTTS) certification.
The DoD now requires satellite tracking provides to support more in-transit visibility of shipments by commercial carriers transporting ammunition, arms, explosives and other sensitive materials. The certification comes after a series of tests conducted by the U.S. Surface Deployment & Distribution command (SDDC).
To increase security, the DoD rules also stipulate that carriers must provide trailer tracking technology while under a DTTS-monitors van trailer load and do so by Feb. 15, 2010. Also, the system has successfully passed testing for Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO) compliance, Qualcomm said.
“Qualcomm has been a key technology partner supporting DTTS since the late 1980s,” said Norm Ellis, vp-transportation and logistics sales & service for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “Our approach to supporting DTTS’ trailer tracking requirements and DTTS commercial carriers is unique in that the tractor and trailer solutions are viewed holistically as an integrated solution, which is a significant benefit to our customers.”
