The Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Commands have approved the use of SkyBitz’ trailer tracking system for controlled movements of arms, ammunition and explosives, granting the company a Defense Transportation Tracking System II (DTTS II) certification required for all asset tracking systems used by carriers hauling those cargos within the U.S.
Carriers have until Feb. 15, 2010 to equip trailers with DTTS II certified tracking transponders and sensors. Certified systems must provide full trailer tracking coverage, sensors to monitor door activity, and the ability to report when a trailer is hooked or unhooked with a tractor. It also requires integration with the program’s back-office monitoring and management systems.
The certified systems are intended to replace security escort vehicles currently required to move military shipments of arms, ammunition and explosives.
