PeopleNet has announced a partnership with Iridium to offer satellite communications as an option alongside its wireless network, allowing the company to offer universal coverage to its fleet customers across the continent, according to PeopleNet.
Through PeopleNet, Iridium satellite communications will be available on a dual-mode basis on installed vehicles. Vehicles will communicate over PeopleNet’s wireless network where it is available, but switch to Iridium mobile satellite services where it is not, with the change seamless, automatic and imperceptible to the driver, PeopleNet said.
Iridium’s network consists of 66 low-earth orbiting cross-linked satellites, providing a data communications service with less lag time between the time a message is sent and the time it is received, PeopleNet said.
