South Dakota Gov Dennis Daugaard attended the groundbreaking for the first project to be built in the new Foundation Park in Sioux Falls SD recently. The 205,000-square-foot cold storage facility was designed by Tippmann Innovation (TI) of Fort Wayne IN.

Sioux Falls local contractor Gil Haugan Construction, together with TI, will build the 205,000-sq-ft refrigerated warehouse. Win Chill, a development, transportation and logistics company, will own the new facility, which will have the capacity to support food wholesalers, retailers, and food manufacturing customers in a four-state region.

The cutting-edge design features the latest refrigeration and freezing technology available in the cold storage industry. This new building will feature 205,000 square feet of public refrigerated warehouse space for a total of 7.7 million cubic feet of freezer and refrigerated capacity.

The advanced cold storage complex features a flexible, convertible design that can maintain temperatures ranging from 40° to –20° F. Structural steel pallet racks will accommodate more than 30,000 pallet positions. This includes 800 QF+ In-Rack Freezing System positions, which combines blast freezing technology and pallet racking. QF+, designed by TI, freezes pallets up to four times faster than traditional blast freezers with the ability to reduce energy consumption by as much as 50%.

The high-tech cold storage complex will feature 50-ft ceilings and 16 modern truck loading docks to accommodate dozens of refrigerated truckloads daily. In addition, the new facility will house three rail dock doors with access to the BNSF railroad network.

This design makes it possible for the Win Chill facility to complement the transportation and logistics needs of the South Dakota region, providing refrigeration and blast freezing services for truckloads of products.

The project is slated for completion in early spring 2018.
