Five good things that happened in trucking this week – Aug. 28
The end of August usually brings last minute getaways and back-to-school prep as the days slowly begin to end earlier and earlier. This August, days are still ending earlier, schools are still prepping, and people are still getting away, with an added global pandemic, rocking hurricanes and social unrest. But as life goes on, so does trucking. Here are five good things that happened in trucking this week.
Teacher prepares a trucking classroom
As the world continues to prepare for the school year, so are teachers. And so is this Texas kindergarten teacher, Jennifer Birch Pierson who is doing everything she can to make sure her five-year-old students stay entertained and safe during the “new normal” of the coming school year. How can kindergartners stay entertained in the classroom you may ask? By having trucking desks, of course!
WIT HERoes of the highway competition
Back in July, Women In Trucking (WIT) decided to make its annual photo contest superhero themed in direct reflection of how truck drivers have been the heroes during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Members of the trucking community have been entering submissions, and voting for your favorite #HERoesofthehighway began on Monday Aug. 24 and will continue through next Friday, Sept. 4.

Georgia officer issues driver 3 kittens during inspection
This summer has been the season of inspections with CVSA’s Operation Safe Driver and Brake Safety Weeks in addition to the rescheduled International Roadcheck set for Sept. 9-11. During an inspection in Georgia, however, Officer Griffin found something a little more unique than usual.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, Officer Griffin was conducting a vehicle inspection and heard the sound of meowing coming from under the truck. The driver and Officer Griffen discovered three kittens hiding out under the truck.
Luckily, the driver received no violations, and gladly went home the owner of three baby kittens.
Schneider driver celebrates 4 million miles
This week, Schneider driver Mike Darras received his 4 Million Mile award as well as a Haul of Fame plaque from Schneider.
According to the company, 4 million miles equates to driving 160 times around Earth. Not a small feat!

International “Trucking” Dog Day
On Wednesday Aug. 26, the world shared pictures of their furry friends across social media to celebrate International Dog Day, and the trucking industry did not hold back. In addition, the public voted on Wednesday for Love’s Travel Stops’ Love’s Dog of the Year 2020 with the winner announced on Aug. 27 – congratulations Huck!
