The global demand for electric motors has grown, as have ZF's production numbers. The supplier of commercial and passenger EVs and hybrids reported it has built its three-millionth electric vehicle motor.
"Within just 18 months, ZF has doubled electric motor production from just under one and a half million to three million," said Roland Hintringer, head of the electric motors product line at ZF. "Thanks to highly automated, volume-flexible, and modular systems, we are able to serve our global customers as required."

The company previously announced that it would develop the magnetic-free electric motor I²SM—a synchronous machine with inductive energy transfer—for compact volume production with high power and torque density.
A new electric drive developed by ZF, the EVSys800, recently demonstrated the potential for increased efficiency and range gains in electromobility. ZF said the prototype is 35% lighter than current electric drives and reduces CO2 emissions in production and operation by 20%. Stator winding technologies, a new cooling concept, and a compact design make these optimization leaps possible.
