The state of Wisconsin announced it is accepting applications from motor carriers for grants as part of its Diesel Truck Idling Reduction Grant Program

The state of Wisconsin announced it is accepting applications from motor carriers for grants as part of its Diesel Truck Idling Reduction Grant Program. The grants provide Wisconsin-based trucking companies a reimbursement of up to 50% of the cost of idle reduction equipment and installation for heavy-duty diesel truck-tractors.

Previously this grant was implemented by the Dept. of Commerce, however because of departmental restructuring; the program is now housed at the Dept. of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS), formerly the Dept. of Regulation and Licensing, according to John Murray, Dept. of Safety & Professional Services.

Idle reduction units eligible for the grants include, but are not limited to: auxiliary power units, battery-powered units, diesel-fired heaters and energy recovery systems, also known as thermal storage systems.

“Wisconsin motor carriers can increase their operational efficiencies and grow their bottom lines through the use of idling technology,” said DSPS secretary Dave Ross, “I encourage our carriers to apply for this cost saving grant.”

DSPS anticipates awarding Wisconsin motor carriers $1 million in grant funding for the upcoming application cycle (July 1, 2011- June 30, 2012).
