Thermo King will be presenting C.R. England with an “Energy Efficiency Leader Award for its use of TempStack container-on-flatcar technology (COFC) to reduce fuel and improve local delivery service. “It’s not often you find a solution providing end-to-end benefits,” said Dan England, president & chairman of the board, C.R. England. “Our commitment to sustainability has also opened the door to improved safety, reliability and cost savings while giving our customers even better service.”

TempStack is a double-stack 53-ft. COFC boasting technology that runs reefer units only as needed, according to Thermo King. This leads to a reduction in operating costs and a fleet’s carbon footprint.

TempStack provides a temperature-controlled environment to combine the benefits of rail transportation and localized trailer delivery, said Thermo King. TempStackt uses a customized temperature control system, OptiSet, that offers more than 500 pre-set temperature options allowing unit customization.

C.R. England has also increased operational efficiency by incorporating Cycle-Sentry modulation, which allows the unit engine to shut down when air temperature has reached the desired setpoint.

Operating intermodally helped C.R. England save 3.5-million gallons of fuel last year and the carrier expects 40% lower fuel costs when compared to traditional operating models.

The TempStack fleet will include 300 containers by the end of the first quarter of 2011, C.R. England said.

The award was presented to Dan England by Thermo King North America president Chris Casazza today at a presentation at C.R. England’s national headquarters in Salt Lake City.

Thermo King had previously presented an Energy Efficiency Leader Award to Edible Arrangements for its contribution to developing an all-electric refrigeration system for Ford Transit Connect trucks.
