LAS VEGAS. ATDynamics, a global supplier of tractor-trailer rear-drag aerodynamics technology, will pursue an “aggressive growth and product development strategy to provide fuel saving rear-drag aerodynamic fairings for four million high-mileage semi-trailers operating on US and international highways.” The company made the announcement here at the annual ATA Management Conference.
According to the company, 10,000 ATDynamics TrailerTail aero devices are already in use on trailers on U.S. highways and “have to date logged over 300-million miles and saved over two million gallons of diesel fuel.”
That being said, ATDynamics pointed out that rapid international adoption of ATDynamics technology affords the opportunity “to save the transportation industry over $80 billion in fuel costs over the next decade and offset the carbon emissions equivalent to taking over four million passenger vehicles off the road.”
To achieve that aggressive goal, ATDynamics said it will continue to expand its TrailerTail product line “to provide trucking fleets with effective and profitable rear-drag technologies to fit all trailer configurations and fleet operations.”
ATDynamics also announced the latest TrailerTail device—the TrailerTail Trident-- to be verified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an "Advanced Trailer End Fairing." The company said the TrailerTail Trident is an adaptation of the standard TrailerTail specifically designed for lower-mileage, drop- and- hook operations and will provide stand-alone compliance with California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirements for trailer aerodynamics.
In September, ATDynamics noted that it launched the TrailerTail Eco-50 in the European market. The TrailerTail Eco-50 is designed to comply with a first of its kind semi-trailer length exemption for aerodynamic devices on European Union highways, which is scheduled to be approved by the European Commission by the end of 2012.
"ATDynamics has witnessed a fundamental shift in the U.S. trucking industry since our initial TrailerTail launch in 2008," said Andrew Smith, CEO of ATDynamics Inc. "Competitive fleets understand the fuel savings and durability of TrailerTail equipment and their principle focus now is to implement the most cost effective program possible. ATDynamics is focused on making it as easy as possible for trucking fleet customers to deploy TrailerTails in their fleets -- and never again operate a trailer without a tail."
