Impco plans Silverado, Sierra crew cab CNG bi-fuel system

June 14, 2013

Impco Automotive will provide assistance in the production of a bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) crew cab configuration for 2014 model year Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and the GMC Sierra 2500 HD pickups.

Impco’s  proprietary CNG bi-fuel system will be integrated into the pickups at the company's production facility in Union City, IN. These crew cab configurations are available for order. Shipping will occur in the third and fourth quarters of 2013, Impco said.

“We are excited GM has added an extended crew cab model option to the 911, which will provide customers another option within GM’s CNG program,” said Marco Seimandi, Fuel Systems’ Automotive executive sales and marketing director. “Orders for GM’s CNG existing conversions of 610 van and 911 pickups have exceeded 2,000 units in 2013. The crew cab order is expected to increase volumes by 400 to 500 units in 2013.

As an extension of GM’s manufacturing process, Impco Automotive installs the single-tank bi-fuel CNG system using GM’s OEM processes and standards. The entire gaseous fuel system adheres to GM’s strict quality, durability, and safety testing requirements to ensure a superior product, Impco said. Once the fuel system is in place, GM delivers these trucks to a dealer or to an up-fitter for customer-ordered modifications.
