Diesel price averages across the nation fell for the second consecutive week. The current on-highway U.S. diesel price average is $3.582, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on March 10. Similarly, gasoline price averages are down nationwide for the third week.
Here are this week’s diesel price highlights from each region of the U.S.:
- Rocky Mountain: The Rockies saw the most significant decline in diesel prices this week. Diesel is down to an average of $3.414, six cents less compared to last week’s average of $3.478.
- Gulf Coast: The next biggest decline, 6 cents, was seen off the Gulf Coast. This week’s diesel price average is down to $3.284.
- Midwest: The Midwest experienced a drop of 5 cents from last week’s diesel price average of $3.551 to this week’s average of $3.497.
- West Coast: The West Coast again saw a decent decline in diesel prices. This week’s average is $4.250, a 5-cent drop from last week’s average of $4.303. However, this coast is still the area of the U.S. with the highest diesel price.
- East Coast: The East Coast came in last this week, with the smallest decline of 4 cents to $3.699.
AAA Motor Club is also reporting a drop in diesel prices. According to the association, the average diesel price for this week is $3.625, which is 4 cents higher than EIA reporting. AAA is still seeing a small but steady decline in diesel prices, which has been going on for several weeks now.

Gas prices continue to drop
EIA estimates the current national gasoline price average to be $3.069, just one cent less than last week’s average of $3.078. Compared to last year, gas prices are down by 31 cents.
Here are this week’s gasoline price highlights from each region of the U.S.:
- West Coast: The most significant drop in gas prices was seen along the West Coast at $4.099. This is down 4 cents compared to last week in this region.
- East Coast: The opposite coast also experienced a sizable drop in gas prices by 3 cents, bringing the average to $2.945.
- Rocky Mountain: The Rockies saw the smallest decline in gas prices this week, 0.4 cents for an average of $2.960.
- Midwest: Unfortunately, not every area of the U.S. saw gas prices drop. The flyover states saw an increase of 2 cents, to an average of $2.899.
- Gulf Coast: The most significant rise in gas prices was seen off the Gulf Coast—the average gas price there is $2.680, up by 4 cents.
However, AAA motor club saw a plateau in gas prices this week. According to AAA, last week’s average gas price was $3.089, and it is estimating the same average for this week. Gas prices are still down significantly from this time last year, which saw an average of $3.346.
In a press release, AAA claimed that declining gas prices were partly due to softer oil prices. However, with tariffs and warmer weather on the horizon, AAA believes the American public could soon see more fluctuations in fuel prices.
