Benore Logistic Systems adds first electric Peterbilt to fleet

June 9, 2021
The Model 579 Electric Vehicle will provide a range of up to 150 miles when used in conjunction with a DC fast-charger which can charge the vehicle in 3-4 hours.

Benore Logistic Systems, an asset-based supply chain services company headquartered in Michigan, has purchased its first Peterbilt Model 579 Electric Vehicle (EV) to be added to their fleet.

The long-standing relationship with Paccar—Benore operates a large fleet of Peterbilt diesel tractors—made the selection of the Peterbilt Model 579EV an easy one as the first EV tractor to join the fleet. The technology found in the battery packs provides a range of up to 150 miles and when used in conjunction with a recommended DC fast-charger, the high-energy-density battery packs recharge in 3-4 hours.

“We are proud to be part of this journey towards a cleaner future,” Jeffery Benore, president and owner of Benore Logistic Systems, said. “Implementing the Peterbilt EVs will be a quick adjustment for our drivers, as they are very familiar with the diesel version of the vehicle.”

The Model 579EV demonstration unit being used by Benore is part of a California Air Resources Board (CARB) and South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund Zero Emission Drayage Truck Demonstration Project, funded by the California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment—particularly in disadvantaged communities and the SCAQMD’s Clean Fuels Fund through a $6 million contribution towards the project.

Data from the Benore demonstration will further data collection and unique duty cycle performance information for the grant project.

To prepare for the Peterbilt 579EV delivery, Benore has been running a 579EV demonstration unit on routes in their South Carolina network since mid-May. Benore’s long-time business partner, BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC, is making a significant contribution with their installation of a high-capacity electric charger at their U.S. plant.

These early routes will provide Benore with valuable insights into the performance of Class 8 electric trucks. All the information obtained will help Benore accelerate its transition to an electric fleet. An innovative plan has been developed to ensure that the charging time required will not impact the delivery schedule to their customers.
