Recall Roundup: Safety notices issued for GM and Paccar equipment

Jan. 24, 2024
NHTSA’s latest safety notices feature leaking oil and detached mirrors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including General Motors and Paccar.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Brightdrop models may leak oil and cause engine fires

General Motors is recalling certain 2022 BrightDrop EV600 vehicles. The front-drive unit may leak oil and cause an engine compartment fire. This recall potentially affects 66 vehicles.

GM will replace the vehicles. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 15. Owners may contact GM customer service at 888-988-7267. BrightDrop owners may contact customer service number 888-987-4377. GM's number for this recall is N232466420.

Peterbilt and Kenworth models’ mirrors may detach

Pacccar is recalling certain 2022-2024 Peterbilt 535, 536, 537, 548, and Kenworth T180, T280, T380, T480 trucks. The glass lock ring on the cab mirror assembly may not be fully seated, allowing the mirror glass to detach. A detached mirror glass can reduce driver visibility, increasing the crash risk. This recall potentially affects 11,053 vehicles.

Dealers will inspect the mirror glass lock ring and repair it as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Mar. 15. Owners may contact Kenworth customer service at 425-828-5888 and/or Peterbilt customer service at 940-591-4220. PACCAR's numbers for this recall are 24KWA and 24PBA.
