GRAPEVINE, TX. Taking advantage of the gathering of industry professionals at this week’s American Trucking Assns. (ATA) Management Conference & Exhibition, Navistar is showcasing a number of features available on its ProStar+ and TranStar models.

Both vehicles are equipped with the Diamond Logic electrical system, which includes an automated pretrip vehicle inspection feature to prompt drivers to confirm the operating condition of exterior lights before driving. There is also a parking brake alarm that sounds when the key is off and parking brake is not set; wipers that slow down when the parking brake is set; and headlights, park lights, trailer lights and marker lights that automatically turn on with the wipers.

“Rebounding freight volume, along with the effects of CSA 2010, have resulted in a growing driver shortage among Class 8 fleets,” said Jim Hebe, Navistar senior vice president, North American sales operations. “Customers today are asking us more and more to provide products that will help fleets attract and retain qualified drivers. We believe these product features deliver on that need.”

The ProStar+ also features the Diamond Interior Concept which includes an interior trim package with diamond-stitched trim on the seats, door panels, and throughout the sleeper cab.

Other “driver-centric options” available on the ProStar+ are a premium in-dash GPS system featuring prognostics, fault code and tire pressure monitoring; and a premium stereo featuring XM Radio, iPod/MP3 command and control and multiple speakers.

The tractor also includes the MaxxPower battery powered HVAC system for no-idle heating and cooling; and an auto stop/start feature that safeguards against battery depletion under extreme temperature conditions by automatically starting the engine to recharge the batteries.

The Bendix Wingman Advanced collision mitigation system brings together adaptive cruise control with braking features along with collision mitigation braking technology is offered along with a Bendix all-wheel air disc brake package; Bendix AutoVue lane departure warning system; LED exterior lighting that is designed to last 100 times longer and use 75% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs; and a Fontaine 12-in. Ultra NT fifth wheel with no-slack feature offering weight savings of up to 50 lbs. or more over competitive products.

On the TranStar, customers can spec the Eagle interior, in-dash GPS, and Allison TC-10 transmission.

The Eagle interior features premium air-ride seats, a wood-grained dashboard, chrome accents and bezels, and an ergonomically-designed “wing panel” over the center console. The TransStar also is available with a Rand McNally in-dash GPS with truck-specific map software.
