A new small shuttle bus from Navistar’s (NYSE: NAV) IC Bus unit is touted as an integrated product that offers a “one-stop-shop” approach to bus operators.

The concept behind the approach is to provide “bumper-to-bumper” coverage for customers. This will allow them to purchase, finance, and maintain their bus from one company, IC Bus. Parts, service and warranty coverage are part of the package.

“Bus operators shouldn’t have to settle for less and that’s why we’re introducing our first fully integrated small shuttle bus,” said John McKinney, president, IC Bus. “We launched the AC Series because we believe our customers deserve better.”

The AC Series features a lifecycle about twice as long as similar shuttle buses, IC said. It shares a platform with Navistar’s commercial TerraStar truck and features frame rails rated to 80,000 psi. There is a full-tilt hood to allow for easy access to the V8 engine.

The engine is a 220 hp., 6.4-liter MaxxForce 7 with a 28,000-psi high-pressure common-rail fuel system, dual sequential turbocharger and high-strength compacted graphite iron block. It is matched to an Allison 1000 Series transmission. The MaxxForce 7 uses Navistar’s Advanced EGR emissions technology to meet EPA 2010 emissions regulations. It does not require diesel exhaust fluid.

“The MaxxForce 7 V-8 provides big power from an efficient, reliable and durable platform,” McKinney said. “Customers will find the MaxxForce 7 to be the perfect fit for their operations with true commercial vehicle power, durability and capability.”
