Recall Roundup: New recalls issued for commercial trucks, vans

NHTSA’s latest safety notices feature failing airbags, seat back malfunctions, and more.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Ford, Volvo, and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Chevy Silverado models’ airbags may fail to deploy

General Motors is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD vehicles. The airbag sensing and diagnostic module may not have been activated during installation. Inactive airbags will not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

This recall potentially affects 25 vehicles. A Navistar technician will activate the airbag module. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 18. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N242477760.

Ford Transit models’ seat back malfunction

Quality Van Sales is recalling one 2023 Ford Transit 350 vehicle, equipped with certain GO-ES Space Saver Foldaway Seats. The recliner mechanism may not engage when the seat back is fully reclined. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 207, "Seating Systems." The seat back could release when force is applied to the shoulder belt, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

This recall potentially affects one vehicle. Quality Van will work with the equipment manufacturer, Freedman, to inspect and repair the seats as necessary. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. The owner may contact Quality Van Sales at 800-408-8550.

Volvo VN models’ unintended acceleration in limp mode

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling certain 2022-2024 Volvo VN vehicles. When the controller area network communications are interrupted and the vehicle is in limp mode, an incorrect accelerator pedal signal can result in unintended acceleration. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems." Sudden, unintended acceleration can increase the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 2,098 vehicles. Dealers will update the electronic control unit software. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 22. Owners may contact Volvo Customer Service at 800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX2408.
