    The longer/heavier truck debate

    Congress recently considered legislation to allow 33-foot double trailers to operate across all U.S. highways sparked some sharp debate between advocates and opponents of longer and heavier trucks, largely centered on safety issues. The proposal put before Congress back in June would have extended the length of existing 28-foot trailers used in doubles by five feet, for a total of 10 extra feet per longer combination vehicle (LCV).
