Ram steps into electrified work-truck segment with Revolution 1500

Jan. 10, 2023
OEM’s BEV concept was unveiled last week at CES 2023 and for model year 2024 will join a segment that is starting to become crowded with competing work pickups built by Ford, Chevy, GMC, Toyota, Rivian, Atlis, and Lordstown.

Stellantis’ Ram is now out with a concept 1500 Revolution battery-electric that would cross over into commercial fleet use and would join competitors such as Ford’s F-150 Lightning, Chevy with its Silverado EV, GMC’s Hummer EV, and Toyota’s Tundra, and newer nameplates such as Rivian, Atlis, and Lordstown in the electric work pickup truck space.

Ram unveiled the 1500 Revolution concept at CES 2023 last week in Las Vegas. The concept will go into production this year and will be introduced as a model-year 2024 vehicle. And it will enter the market segment as the leader in range, towing, payload, and charge time, boasts a Stellantis release.

In that release, the manufacturer said the Revolution is loaded with advanced technology, includes advance mobility features, and features an ultra-modern exterior design that also will be part of other future Ram truck models.

The doors of the Ram Revolution have been “reimagined” in a grand saloon-style opening that showcases a roomy occupant space without a B-pillar and a new interior that offers flexibility with room to configure workspace with a removeable center console with fold-flat surface and third-row jump seats, an industry first, according to the OEM.

The powered mid-gate of the Revolution features mounted jump seats with a removable lower section that allows for multiple flexible seating configurations and enables a pass-through (and into the “frunk”) that can fit objects up to 18-ft. long. The battery-electric pickup is built on new STLA frame body-on-frame architecture that is designed for full-size electric vehicles. The concept also incorporates the battery pack efficiently with full underbody aero panels and active diffuser.

The 1500 Revolution is powered by two electric drive modules (EDMs) and features all-wheel-drive capability. Up to 100 miles of range can be reached in approximately 10 minutes with 800-volt DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. The BEV concept has four-wheel steering with up to 15 degrees of articulation.

“The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept is our clearest signal yet that we’re on the precipice of something extraordinary at Ram and points directly to where we’re going on our electrified journey,” said Mike Koval Jr., Ram brand CEO-Stellantis.

“The Ram Revolution represents several important things to the Ram brand,” he added. “Of course, it’s our new Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept that serves as a roadmap to our electrified future. Yet Ram Revolution is also our philosophy as we redefine the pickup segment, with a steady drumbeat of announcements and initiatives as we embark on our electrified journey.”
